It is widely agreed that a close collaboration of HR and International Communications resources can make an important contribution to an organization’s goal achievement. In many cases, however, such collaboration is minimal only or does not occur at all. In their article, Greutter and Jäggi explore the most important roadblocks and provide examples of effective forms of cooperation (article in German only).

Book – Lars Dörfel (Editor / 2007): Interne Kommunikation
With 19 specialized articles, this new German-language publication sheds light on current issues and developments in internal communications, including an update on trends in internal media and case studies. In particular, it challenges the role of internal communications as strategic management tool and driver of change processes. On the whole, we can recommend the book even though some of the articles seem a bit philosophical. More information and excerpts (in German only) at http://buch.interne-kommunikation.net/.

Report – TJ Larkin, Sandar Larkin: Communicating big change using small communication
How can companies use employee communications to support change projects? U.S. communications consultants TJ and Sandar Larkin have an answer: “small communication” that starts early in the process and emphasizes face-to-face meetings focusing on possible outcomes. Although sometimes a bit one-sided, e.g. we miss a reference to the legal restrictions for listed companies, the report is stimulating and thought-provoking. Don’t be deterred by its length of 72 pages – you will find it an enjoyable read taking no more than 30 minutes. The text can be downloaded at www.larkin.biz/publications.htm.

Article – Peter Szyszka (2006): Internal PR as instrument for internal communication
At long last, someone tightens up the terms of internal communications. Peter Szyszka differentiates between internal communications, employee communications, and internal PR. Book – Philipp G. Clampitt (2005): Communicating for managerial effectiveness
In his bestseller, Philipp G. Clampitt challenges traditional communication models and develops his own model based on the metaphor "communication as a dance." He offers a profound examination of corporate culture and communication ethics. Despite the extensive use of metaphors—especially in the chapter summaries—we recommend the book for its innovative approach. Abstracts and excerpts at http://www.imetacomm.com/cme3
